Martin Sauter’s Biography
One of the first photos of me showing interest in communication technology was taken when I was two years old, playing with a toy phone. Since then, this hasn’t changed much. My professional interests are still focused around communication, mobile communication networks, multimedia applications, and especially the wireless Internet.
Having graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Ravensburg / Germany in the middle of the 1990's, I first joined a small startup company which focused on the development of web based telemonitoring devices.
In 2000, my interests led me to Nortel's GSM/UMTS R&D team. Since then, I've held a number of positions in MSC R&D and GPRS engineering. In recent years my project scopes have expanded and I am currently working as a Wireless Solution Consultant.
Some of my free time is dedicated to teaching and book writing. In 2004, I’ve published a book on mobile technologies with Vieweg, a German publisher and the book is now in its third edition. Since then, book writing has kept me fascinated and my second book has been published by John Wiley and Sons in 2006. It's titled "Communication Systems for the Mobile Information Society" and gives a solid technical introduction to GSM, GPRS, UMTS, WiMAX, Wireless LAN and Bluetooth. In 2008, book number three will hit the shelves but I am not quite ready yet to talk about it.
The blog your are looking at initially came into existence as a place to put thoughts, ideas, and the latest news which never make it into a book in time. Since starting the blog, however, it's purpose has widened as it has become a wonderful platform to discuss and share ideas and questions with a larger audience.
Beyond technology and book writing, I like to travel and enjoy Opera and learning about Roman history.
