Biography

Martin Sauter is a telecommunication professional, researcher, book author and blogger based in Germany and Paris. On his blog, Martin covers and comments wireless topics and discusses his thoughts with a global audience. His interests are focused on mobile communication networks, multimedia applications and especially the wireless Internet.

During his studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Ravensburg / Germany, Martin worked in various fields such as fuzzy logic, database application development during a semester in Los Angeles and linking virtual and physical worlds at the Fraunhofer Institue in Stuttgart.

After graduation, Martin joined a start-up company as lead developer for web based telemonitoring devices. In 2000, his interests lead him to Nortel's GSM/UMTS R&D team. Since then, he held a number of positions in MSC R&D and wireless packet network engineering. Currently, Martin works as a solution consultant, developing new application and service concepts for mobile network operators. In addition, he serves as a representative in ETSI standardization working groups and has a number of patent applications tied to his name. The opinions on this blog are his own, however, and neither his employer nor any other party necessarily agrees with them.

Some of his free time is dedicated to lecturing, speaking at conferences and book writing. In 2004, he published a book on mobile technologies with Vieweg, a renowned German publishing house, now in its third edition. His second book, ‘Communication Systems for the Mobile Information Society’ was published in 2006 by John Wiley and Sons, ‘the’ technical publisher in the English speaking world. It is available, for example, at Amazon.com. His third book, 'Beyond 3G - Bringing Networks, Terminals and the Web Together', again published by Wiley, has been released in January 2009 and focuses on the evolution of wireless networks, mobile devices and the mobile web 2.0.
