Stefan Constantinescu

when will they be able to cope with people like me who seem to download around half a gigabyte a day dude to torrents and youtube?

Martin

Hi Stefan,

I guess people like you and me are best served by operators that offer both wireless and DSL/cable access. Wireless for the move / while traveling and DSL/cable over Wifi to my mobile devices and the notebook while at home or in the office. Lots of potential in converging access networks. We are not quite there yet, but first signs can be seen.

Cheers,
Martin

It is unclear from the sources whether this is real broadband market share or just hype.

In other markets 3G is not really a broadband replacement, but rather a complement. So, in order to get any kind of statistically relevant data the survey would need to distinguish between primary and secondary connectivity or at the very least only count wireless broadband only households.

Futhermore when looking at OECD broadband statistics Austria trails other markets in broadband penetration. So the question is, is 3G a broadband or dialup replacement in Austria?

Martin

Hi Zed,

since I am in Austria quite a lot myself, have a prepaid SIM card for HSPA network access myself and know a lot of locals how are online via 3G I am sure it's far from being just "Hype". No matter whether it's a broadband or dial up replacement, 58% of new broadband connections being 3G is an impressive number. The price makes the difference.

Cheers,
Martin
