I just recently went back home to Romania for a short vacation and there I found something nice from the local Orange branch.

Their prepaid default pack (5,- Euro, with 4,- returned as credit) had a nice data option which costs 5,- to activate each month and gives you 500MB of included EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA traffic. That is exactly 1 cent/MB, which I found quite ok for a prepaid card. If you use more, you are further taxed with 1.2 cent/MB.

Unfortunately I had a bit of trouble to get it working with my iPhone, as usual on a carrier that actually sells it - you can't edit the APN and then you must buy the local postpaid iPhone rip-off... nice Apple, good way to make the traveler friends.
