It's a good thing that the majority of mobile device manufacturers are now using the USB port on their devices for charging as it reduces the number of power adapters I have to carry along. But there's one catch: While my Nokia charges have so far featured an ultra thin and flexible cable, standard USB cables are thick and quite inflexible.
So I was wondering if there are "thin" USB cables available for that purpose as so far I've never seen one. So I searched a bit on the web and found some shops that actually sell thin USB cables. (here's an example, but be advised, I don't endorse the company, it's just an example). The cable only supports low and full speed transmissions, i.e. USB 1.1 with 1.5 and 12 MBit/s.
I am not sure if that limitation causes problems when a USB 2.0 device wants to talk to another USB 2.0 device over the cable, which would be the case for most mobile phones today. Something that needs to be tried out once I get my hands on one. If you already have experience with thin cables for charging, please leave a note below. Thanks!

I have tried charging my gadgets with a retractable (thin) USB cable but that doesn't work. It transfers data but doesn't charge, don't know why.
If you find one, please let me know as I would really like one.

Just buy a Nokia AC-10 micro-USB charger, it has all the advantages of traditional Nokia chargers and it will charge micro-USB devices of any vendor.
