One strange problem I've run into is with computers that have internal cellular modems. My Windows 7 machine sees this as an HSUPA/HSDPA modem, but does not consider it a network adapter. It doesn't affect the main machine, but a virtual machine will not be able to use it as it is not considered a network adapter.
